John Yarbrough’s early fitness years in 2011 to 2012 were characterized as a personal/floor trainer part of the Columbus Metro YMCA’s and Columbus State University. Due to a deployment that sent his wife overseas, John moved back to Charlotte, North Carolina. Looking for a new challenge, John turned to the evolving world of CrossFit. John obtained his CrossFit Level 1 certification and spent 15 months at an affiliate box working with other coaches and members who shared the same passion for health and fitness.

During this time John introduced and led a barbell class through the box that focused on improving individual member overall performance and confidence with the skill. Seeking new, innovative ways to cross train and expand performance within team activities, John directed private programs within the Davidson community for groups such as the Davidson’s College Volleyball Team. Additionally, John took part in conducting youth programs that promoted the fitness development of younger athletes.

Passionate and ready to establish his own box in the community of Cornelius, John is excited to work hard and challenge DWC’s members in the road to achieving their personal health and fitness goals. DO WORK!

Jackson Ray started working on his fitness early in life doing martial arts and, like many, he began weight training in high school and never looked back. Starting around 2008, Jackson began to focus more seriously on strength training which led him to start reading, watching training videos, and experimenting with different training methods for a few years. Between 2008 and 2012, he first tried his hand at personal training using his friends and family members as “clients”.

Jackson discovered CrossFit in 2012, and soon his desire to train and coach clients turned him to his first training certifications. In 2013 he obtained his ACE Personal Training certification and the next year he acquired his CrossFit Level 1 as well.

Since 2014, Jackson has been coaching at Dogwood CrossFit and has enjoyed seeing our community grow. Jackson’s full time job is as a High School History teacher, but a lot of his time outside of work is spent in the gym training and coaching alike.
